My Goals, My Future

By: Hannah Leesley, Niagara Sprout Ideas Camp

My name is Hannah Leesley, and I attended the 2016 Sprout Ideas Camp in Niagara, Ontario. Since I was eight, cars have always been my passion. The way they move and function never ceases to amaze me. Although, this passion has driven me to strive for more, I have always had difficulty communicating my ideas and thoughts.

This camp was originally introduced to me through my guidance counselor. I initially thought it was just a typical leadership camp, I turned out to be very wrong.

This leadership camp was more than just a “Leadership camp.” It was a safe, judgement free zone and a life changing experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. FOREVER. At camp I met the friendliest people all with a hunger to change the world. Every detail was planned by our amazing camp leaders and our informative guest speakers. All of the activities and workshops during the camp were both fun and educational. There were step by step processes that helped us as groups achieve our overall goal for that week of creating a tangible prototype solution to a social issue we were passionate about. The camp helped me to express my ideas about my passion, cars. Our group, Fast Five, created an awareness campaign on the benefits of electric cars over the effects of gas cars.

The guest speakers took us through activities of their own. Logo making, thanks to Edgar, was a great activity full of fun. It also educated us on how to market our business. Also, talking about money isn’t easy, especially when you are just starting your business, but Olivia gave us some great pointers on how to receive grants and how to use them. These are just some of the many guest speakers that we had at Sprout Ideas Camp to help guide us along the way.

So many amazing things happened at this camp, and to write about all of the highlights would take days. I loved the people, the activities and the amount of love you could feel in the room. The only words I could find to truly explain this camp was, Vita Mutanda, meaning, Life Changing, in Latin. This camp has taught me that no matter what, you can do whatever you choose in life. This camp has definitely made My Goals, My Future.
